What does "kids' food" mean, anyway?

Last week's Dining & Wine section of the NY Times ran a great article that examines the history of children's menus and asks how and why palate deadeners like fried chicken fingers became kids' food staples.

The most compelling point of Don't Point That Menu at My Child, Please speaks to something we at Chow Baby often wonder: why don't parents invest in their children's appetites in the same way that they invest in the rest of their development? Mentally and physically challenging our kids is a must, but we rarely take an active role in helping our kids develop their palates, the very thing that fuels their bodies, minds and spirits.

Chow Baby home delivery service is ending...and that's great news for you! Why? Because now you can get the full Chow Baby line whenever you want at local stores! Sure, home delivery was fun! But lots of parents said the novelty wore off pretty quickly. And while many of you will miss the excitement of a full Chow Baby cooler on your doorstep, most of you probably won't miss having to remember to place your orders, or freeze your ice packs, or put your empty cooler out on Tuesday mornings. So we're teaming up with local business owners to offer our same great Chow Baby foods through their retail establishments. For now, our friends at Crane's in Maplewood Village and at Cafe Meow on Springfield Avenue will carry a complete line of organic foods, meal muffins, teething biscotti, and a few new surprises! Soon, you'll be able to drop by and pick up everything you want whenever it suits you! We're making this change in order to meet our growing client demand. And we couldn't be more excited that so many parents feel so strongly about making Chow Baby part of their kids' eating adventure! Current home delivery service will continue through the end of May with our final home delivery on May 29. After that, Crane's and Cafe Meow will be your Chow Baby sources. Anti-obesity infant formula?

Scientists are developing an infant formula designed to prevent babies from growing up fat. The controversial research aims to supplement fomula with a hormone called leptin that suppresses hunger. Studies suggest early exposure to leptin can programme the brain to prevent over-eating throughout life. Proponents remind us that leptin naturally occurs in breast milk. I'm not sure what to think. Infant Bouncer Seats Recalled Due to Frame Failure

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. Name of product: Infant Bouncer Seats Units: About 1,400 Manufacturer: Oeuf LLC, of Brooklyn, N.Y Hazard: The tubular metal frame can break, posing a fall hazard to infants in the seat. Incidents/Injuries: Oeuf LLC has received six reports of frames breaking. No injuries have been reported. Description: This recall involves Oeuf infant bouncer seats with padded canvas supported by a tubular steel frame. The canvas seat is brown with white, blue or pink stripes. A three-point safety belt is attached to the canvas. Model number 2005 is printed on the label. Sold at: Juvenile specialty stores and Web retailers nationwide from September 2006 through March 2007 for about $100.
